How much does it cost to hire a helicopter in the UK in 2026?

If you are pricing a UK helicopter charter for 2026, the short version is this: a twin-engine executive helicopter costs between £2,800 and £4,500 per flying hour, with a typical day-return charter from London to a race meeting landing somewhere between £14,000 and £17,000 all-in for six passengers.

These are the three twin-engine types we charter most often, with current 2026 UK guide rates per flying hour. Rates are quoted "wet" — fuel and standard crew time included — but exclude positioning, landing fees and VAT.

• Eurocopter AS355 Twin Squirrel — from around £2,800 per hour. Five seats, classic light twin, the value option for shorter UK transfers and event shuttles.
• Agusta A109 Grand SP — from around £3,600 per hour. Six passenger seats, our default UK executive twin, fast cruise, IFR-capable.
• Airbus H145 — from around £4,500 per hour. Up to nine seats, the largest cabin we routinely charter, long range, twin-pilot capable.

Single-engine helicopters appear in some price guides at lower hourly rates, but we charter twin-engine only — they are IFR-capable, certified for night work, and able to complete a flight on a single engine. For executive movements, the safety case almost always justifies the extra spend.

When you see an hourly rate of £3,600 quoted on an Agusta A109, that covers the aircraft, the fuel, one or two pilots' time within the duty day, and basic onboard refreshments. It does not cover everything.

Common line items that get added on top of the hourly rate:

• Positioning flights — bringing the aircraft from its home base to your start point if it does not live there.
• Landing fees — anywhere from £30 at a regional airfield to several hundred pounds at London Battersea Heliport or central-London-adjacent sites.
• Pilot duty extension — for waits beyond a standard duty day, or overnight stays.
• Special handling — VIP terminals, customs or specific ramp access at airports like Heathrow or Gatwick.
• VAT at the standard UK rate.

The clearest way to read pricing is on a real example. Six passengers, London Battersea to Silverstone for the British Grand Prix Saturday qualifying, wheels-up 11:00, returning after the session at 16:30.

• Aircraft: Agusta A109 Grand SP, six seats — perfect fit.
• Flight time: ~25 minutes each way, two hours total inclusive of approach, taxi and shutdown.
• Aircraft hire @ £3,600/hr × 2 hrs = £7,200.
• Positioning from Redhill to Battersea + return = ~£1,400.
• Landing fees at Battersea + Silverstone = ~£1,800.
• Pilot wait + ramp handling = ~£600.
• Subtotal: £11,000 + VAT.
• All-in: ~£13,200 for six passengers — roughly £2,200 each.

Pricing varies sharply by scenario. The hourly rate is the same — but the totals are very different:

• **Airport transfer** — a 12-minute hop from London to Biggin Hill on the A109 lands at around £4,500 all-in. See our airport transfer cost breakdown.
• **Event day return** — six passengers, two-hour total flight, £12,000–£17,000 depending on event and aircraft.
• **UK-wide day charter** — Battersea to Manchester and back, four hours total, around £19,000 all-in on the A109.
• **Multi-day touring** — a polo circuit weekend with two flights per day for three days runs into the £30,000–£45,000 range.

Hourly rates have ticked up around 4–6% across the UK twin-engine fleet versus 2025, broadly tracking insurance and avgas inflation. Landing fees at major commercial airports rose faster — Heathrow handling for executive helicopters is up nearly 10% on 2025 pricing.
